"I've got both the Olympus 25/1.8 and the PL 25/1.4. It is indeed the Panasonic you are looking for. I bought the Olympus because I got a screaming deal on it I like lenses.
I do like how trim and svelte the Olympus is, and how well it completes my set along with the Olympus 17, 45 and 75. It's a really nice lens, with perhaps a bit less sharpness in the center of the frame but very good uniformity, with the corners and edges being unusually good. And when I want to throw one prime in the bag to go with my pro zooms, the smaller size of the Olympus makes it attractive compared to the chunkier PL 25/1.4.
But I do it feel that a somewhat austere color response and only good contrast are fair criticisms, with the PL 25/1.4 providing inarguably outstanding contrast and color. Given the source of your dissatisfaction with the 25/1.7, I recommend the 25/1.4 for its drop-dead gorgeous color and amazing contrast.
And although it isn't material to my recommendation, there is indeed a higher level of optimization for Panasonic bodies in Panasonic lenses and visa-versa. Things like choice of UV filtration vs lens flare, general autofocus optimization, and support for proprietary technologies like DFD and Dual IS/Sync IS.
A good example of the sort of complication would be the aperture rattling in program or aperture priority mode found when using the PL 25/1.4 on Olympus bodies. And while the Olympus 25/1.8 works well on both makers bodies, I wonder if the DFD might be supported on the Panasonic lens (where it definitely won't be with an Oly)."
